2006 Long-Range Statewide Transportation Plan is a 25-year multimodal plan for Kentucky’s transportation system produced by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet and required through the federal transportation reauthorization acts, ISTEA in 1991 and TEA-21 in 1998 and SAFETEA-LU in 2005. Federal legislation required the states to produce the first Statewide Transportation Plan by 1995 and to update the document periodically.
Metropolitan Planning Organization(MPO)
Federal transportation legislation requires that a Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) be designated for each urban area with a population of more than 50,000 people in order to carry out the metropolitan transportation planning process. Each urban area with a population greather then 200,000 is designated as a Transportation Management Area (TMA.)

AASHTO StatewidePlanning.org The primary goal of the American Association of State Highway and Transportation Officials (AASHTO) is to foster the development, operation, and maintenance of an integrated national transportation system. This is accomplished through the statewide transportation planning process conducted by each state. The intended outcome is a safe and secure world-class transportation system that meets mobility needs and helps provide for a competitive economy, livable communities and a sustainable environment.
